George Rae

George Rae trained at The Ian Tomlin School of Music, Edinburgh (BMus), The Royal Academy of Music, London (PGDip Distinction, LRAM) and The University of Greenwich (PGCE). 

As a singing teacher and vocal coach, he is in high demand throughout London and the UK at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, Bird College, the Urdang Academy and the Brighton Institute for Contemporary Theatre Training. 

As an actor, performing highlights include Disney's The Lion King where he played Timon for Sir Tim Rice at the Irish Premiere to great critical acclaim.  Additionally, he was the first Scottish Zazu in the history of the show and also played Ed and Pumbaa at certain performances.  West End/West End tours include: Benjamin in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Schlomo in Fame alongside Barbara Dickson and Rick in A Slice of Saturday Night alongside Norman Pace.  He toured the USA and Canada twice with productions of The Mikado and HMS Pinafore (Carl Rosa Opera Company).

Two consecutive seasons in repertory for Pitlochry Festival Theatre culminated in him winning the prestigious Leon Sinden Award, voted for by audiences to acknowledge and appreciate outstanding individual performances.  George won Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Tim in Noises Off.  Whilst at Pitlochry, he also created the role of George Campbell in the theatre's first musical production: Whisky Galore - A Musical!  In 2017, he returned to the theatre in the hills to play Cosmo Brown in Singin' In The Rain for Artistic Director John Durnin's final 100th production.

Other notable productions include Sister Act (playing TJ), The Finborough production of The Wallace (playing Macduff), Michael Strassen's Company (playing David) and I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change!  Television includes An Enchanted Evening (BBC 3), The Queen's Golden Jubilee and Taggart.  

George gained national critical appraisal for his portrayal of Otto Kringelein in the award-winning 2015 London revival of Grand Hotel ​(Southwark Playhouse) where he was nominated for Best Male Performance (The Off West End Theatre Awards), Best Featured Actor in a New Production of a Musical (The Broadway World UK West End Awards) and Best Actor (The West End Wilma Awards). ​

Recently, George was featured in Mark Shenton's 10 best leading men in UK musical theatre 2017 (The Stage) and was singled out for his performance as the 'joyously goofy and charmingly clumsy' slave Xanthias in the UK premiere of Nathan Lane's revised Broadway version of Sondheim's rarely performed musical, The Frogs, at London's Jermyn Street Theatre. ​

He made his 2018 Feinstein's/54 Below and New York City concert debut with his acclaimed cabaret: Life is a Caba-RAE: A Scot in New York! and most recently played Bert Healy in the 2019 UK tour of Annie.
